Introduction
This article demonstrates how to create or edit a local user group.
Note that you cannot create synchronized user groups from the HelloID admin dashboard. Synchronized groups must be created in the external directory system itself, and then synchronized into HelloID. Although it is possible to edit or delete a synchronized group from the HelloID admin dashboard, any such changes are not written into the directory system and will revert in HelloID during the next synchronization. To permanently edit or delete a synchronized group, you must make these changes in the external directory system itself.
Also see Groups - Overview.
To get started, go to Directory > Groups.
Create a local group
Select the Create Group button in the top right corner.
Fill out the following fields:
- Name
The name for the new group. For this example, the group is named "Marketing." - Enabled
Turn off to disable the group. Disabled groups continue to exist along with all their associated users and settings, but have no effect. - Default
Turn on to assign every new user to this group upon user creation. - Enable QR-Codes
Turn on to let users in this group log on via QR code scanning. Select the Export button to export the QR codes from this group. - Manager
Select a manger for the group. The manager can request products on behalf of, and receive scheduled reports about, the users in the group. The manager can also be accessed as a property via double curly brace syntax, where this syntax is available. - Source
Automatically set to Local. Not user editable. If the group is synchronized from an external directory system rather than created locally, this field will display the name of the origin directory system.
Select the Save button to confirm.
Edit a local group
To edit a local group, select the group's Edit link in Directory > Groups.
You will then be taken to a similar screen as described above, in the Create a local group section. However, this screen has an additional row of buttons:
These buttons correspond to the links shown for the group on the Groups Overview page, under the Actions column.
When finished, select the Save button to confirm.
Delete a local group
To delete a local group, select the appropriate row in Directory > Groups and then select the Delete button.
Confirm by selecting the Delete button in the confirmation window.
The group will then be deleted.
