Introduction
HelloID provides your organization with industry-leading self-service and workflow functionality as part of its Service Automation suite of features. With Service Automation, HelloID empowers your organization's users to meet their own IT needs without involving the helpdesk.
What are Self-Service Products?
Self-Service Products allow users to submit a request for an arbitrary resource, such as a group membership, a piece of software, or physical equipment. In general, a "product" is something that can be requested, granted, and returned.
Once a request is submitted by a user, their request is routed to a responsible party for approval. The responsible party can be the owner of the requested resource, the user's direct manager, or a group of individuals that are determined dynamically (e.g., by department and job title). Requests can also be automatically approved, depending on your configuration.
Once a request has been approved, any number of tasks can be launched. In accordance with the previous examples, the user would be added the group, the software would be installed, or the user would be allowed to retrieve the physical equipment. All of this activity is audited within HelloID, and all without anyone calling the helpdesk.
Create a Category
Before you can add a product, you must first create a product category. Categories are like containers, and can be used to filter down the list of available products on the HelloID End User Dashboard. You can learn more about categories here.
Create an Approval Workflow
HelloID comes pre-packaged with some approval workflows, such as Approval by resource owner, Auto Approve, and Auto Deny. If these don't meet your needs, you can create a custom workflow of your own. Learn more about approval workflows here.
Create a Product
Once you have at least one category created, and the desired workflows, you're free to create a Self-Service Product. The use cases for Self-Service Products are many and varied, but it's a safe bet that your organization can make good use of them. You can learn more about creating and managing self-service products here.
