Before members of your organization can access HelloID, they need to have a user account within your environment. Users within HelloID come in two varieties: synchronized and local.
Synchronized users are accounts in HelloID whose information is linked to an account in your Identity Provider (IdP). This is often an Active Directory user account. The status and attributes of the account in HelloID directly mirror that of the source, and any change to the source is synchronized to HelloID. Note that changes to the account in HelloID are not reflected back into the Identity Provider.
Local users are accounts whose data lives entirely in HelloID. The built-in administrator account is an example of a local HelloID user. Although possible, it's rare that organizations give local accounts to every user. More often, synchronized accounts are implemented.
Enable Active Directory Synchronization
IMPORTANT: This article assumes that you will be using the HelloID Agent to handle all synchronization and authentication with Active Directory. If you plan to use a different Identity Provider, such as ADFS or a non-Active Directory IdP, then you may skip ahead.
Install the HelloID Agent
To begin synchronizing users from Active Directory through the HelloID Agent, be sure that you have installed the HelloID Agent somewhere in your network.
Create a Directory Configuration
In order to tell the HelloID Agent what to synchronize, a Directory Configuration must be created. In the HelloID Admin Dashboard, navigate to Directory > Active Directory to get started. This article will lead you through the details of creating the configuration.
Synchronize User Accounts
Once the configuration is created, a synchronization job is automatically added for you to HelloID's task list. You may choose to run that job immediately once the configuration is saved. To view the synchronization job, or trigger it manually, navigate to Automation > Tasks. You can learn more about scheduled tasks here.
View and Manage Users
In order to see the user accounts that are present in your HelloID environment, you may navigate to Directory > Users in the HelloID Admin Dashboard. This will present you with an overview of all user accounts. From this screen, you can search and filter for users, as well as view the properties of any user account. You may also create local users by clicking on the Create User button. You may learn more about local user accounts in HelloID here.
