Introduction
Business rules tell HelloID Provisioning which entitlements to grant to which Persons, under which conditions. They have no effect until you publish and enforce them.
Also see Business Rules - Overview.
To get started, go to Business Rules > Rules.
Add or manage a business rule
- Select the plus (+) button.
Or, to edit an existing business rule, select its wrench button. - You're taken to the Overview tab.

Overview tab
This tab is split into the following sections:
- Rule State and Name
Edit the business rule's name on the General tab. For information on state, see Publish a business rule. - Conditions
A business rule may contain one or more conditions. Conditions determine which Persons will be in-scope of the rule. By default, new a rule contains only a single condition (an active employment contract). You may change or add conditions as you see fit, such as selecting members of a certain department. Learn more about configuring conditions here. Edit a rule's Conditions on the Conditions tab. - Entitlements
The entitlements which will be granted to in-scope Persons by this business rule. The types of entitlements available are determined by your connected target systems. Edit a rule's Entitlements on the Entitlements tab. A count is displayed below this pane. - Persons
A list of all Persons that are in-scope of the rule based on the current Conditions. A count is displayed below this pane.
General tab
- Rule Name
Change the name that identifies the rule. Does not affect the rule's functionality. - Categories
Apply existing categories to this business rule, or create new ones by typing in their name. Categories allow you to filter which rules are visible on the business rules overview screen, using the filter button. For example, you might want to categorize your business rules by department or function. This is particularly useful if you have a large number of business rules. Note that when you filter by multiple categories, the filter operates according to OR logic. You may filter by up to 20 categories at a time, and category name length is limited to 100 characters.
Conditions tab
See Configure business rule conditions.
Entitlements tab
- Configured entitlements
A summary of all entitlements currently added to this business rule, from all target systems. - Available target systems
Your configured target systems, which contain entitlements that you can add to this business rule. See Add or modify an entitlement and Remove an entitlement. - Entitlements
The current entitlements for (1) or (2). - Refresh
Select this button to query the target system for the latest set of available entitlements.
Clone a business rule
- On the Business Rules Overview, select the Clone button for the relevant business rule.
- The business rule is duplicated. The duplicate is in a Draft state, with all entitlements and conditions carried over.
- Customize and publish the new rule.
Publish a business rule
Each business rule can be in a published or a draft state. When you make changes, the rule is auto-saved in a Draft state. A rule only enters a Published state when you select the Publish button. Only Published rules are applied during evaluation and enforcement. To roll back all changes that have been auto-saved since you last selected the Publish button, select the Revert button.
When you're finished configuring your rule, select the Publish button.
Confirm rule publication by selecting the Save & Publish button.
Delete a business rule
To delete a business rule, select its trashcan button.
You are given two options: Delete and revoke, or Delete and keep unmanaged:
Select one to confirm. If you select Delete and revoke, the entitlements will remain in place until the next enforcement, at which time they will be revoked. If you select Delete and keep unmanaged, the state of the entitlements will be removed from HelloID. They will not be revoked by HelloID at any point. To revoke them, you will have to manually remove them in the target system.
