Introduction
You can allow HelloID end users to log in by scanning a QR code. QR access is controlled on the basis of group membership. This feature is particularly useful for end users who may find it difficult to remember or type a password, such as K-5 students.
Configure end user login via QR code
Configure your sign-on policy
- Go to the Sign On Policies page at Security > Policies > Sign On Policies.
- Turn on the following toggles:
- Enable QR-Login
- Show QR-Login on Login Selector Page
- Optionally, enter a comma-separated list or range of IP addresses to whitelist them for QR login. To allow all IP addresses, enter an asterisk (
*
). - Select the Save button.
Enable QR login for one or more groups
- Create or edit the group whose members will be allowed to log in via QR code.
- Add the appropriate users and/or other groups to this group.
- Turn on the Enable QR-Codes toggle.
- Select the Save button.
- Repeat steps (1) - (4) for any additional groups which should grant QR access.
Assign QR codes to users
After you've enabled QR login for a group, QR codes will be automatically assigned to:
- All users currently in the group
- All users subsequently added to the group
There may be a ~15 minute delay before codes are generated. To manually generate a code (to override the delay, or for any other reason), do the following:
- Edit the relevant user.
- Under the General tab, select the Generate button. Alternatively, select the Scan button to use your device's camera to import an existing QR code.
- A QR code is generated or imported. This is the QR code with which the user will log in.
- Select the Save button.
Export QR codes by group
To export QR codes for an entire group (for example, to print and distribute them), follow these instructions:
- Edit the relevant group.
- Select the Export button.
- QR codes for all users in the group are exported to PDF.
